This image is called peace. Except its not the feeling that I get from it. When I look at it I feel a sense of meloncholy to best discribe it. Its like I feel this sense of darkness that is hovering over me. I think that Everton creates the feeling through the depth and shadow that is so evident in this image. The depth entices you to feel distant and I think that when you feel distant you feel alone. You feel hopeless and sad. With the dark space that has been created with shaddow takes up the whole image, almost swallowing the woman.

Again this image by Samantha Everton is an image of a woman submersed in water however she is not completely underwater. Her head is still above the water. The woman's body language appears to be tense in a calm way. The woman looks as if she is just swimming, clamly emersing herself in the water, splashing about. In this image the woman is dressed in a pale blue dress, possibly suggesting her frame of mind or just to give the image more meaning. However I don't know what that meaning is yet.

This image by Samantha Everton depicts an image of a young woman, submersed in water. Her eyes are closed and her body is clam. She seems very relaxed almost as if she is sleeping and as she is submersed underwater she is shut out from the world. Water can be interpreted in so many different ways, including the subconscious and it also brings a cleansing nature to it. The image is very raw as you can see the girls face and nothing is hidden everything is there for you to see. Unlike a Tom Chambers work that the identity if often hidden. As the water and her body language reflect that idea of the subconscious, I really think that this work explores the subconscious. As when you are under water you are in a different world, nothing sounds the same you can talk, you can't see you and relaxed. As I think that when you are sleeping (an element of subconscious) you feel all these things.

Patricia Piccinini

Her works are really weird, in-fact disturbing. However I do see some meaning. What I get from it is that we all kind of have those things that our imaginations think up and that they are there but they never they are its just our minds. I think that piccinini has put a figure or creature to that feeling. I think this is really evident when you see those images of people walking along there is someone watching them sitting on the lamp post.

Some different ideas

Hybrids of humans and something else
ethical testing that we have to of have made mutations therefore hybrids of the human species
after discussing with the class im so wrong.

are they equal to humans?

relation to essay:

Artists

So I have had a look at nearly everyone of the artists on the task sheet. Although I haven't found any that really speak to me or grab me or even are similar to my works. Although I do find that Patricia Hicks works do interest me

I think the hair captures me! That idea of the hair. Its like our hair is our protector, we can hide behind it, its messy when we feel stressed and flat when we feel dull. Like when you go to the hairdressers and you get a big chop you feel like a new you. I think we are very connected with our hair. These two images make me feel distressed or like i have missed something.
CONTEXTS
Explore interpretations of ‘reality’ in relation to psychological, historical and socio-cultural art contexts. Explore the questions associated with each by thinking through the possibilities in your visual diary.

Reality: is the state of things as they actually exist, rather than as they may appear or may be thought to be.[1] In its widest definition, reality includes everything that is and has being, whether or not it is observable or comprehensible.

resemblance to what is real.

something that constitutes a real or actual thing, as distinguished from something that is merely apparent.

I think this is Psychological version of reality as it is more clinical or the right way and i think in art when reality is captured it is almost confronting as we don't think about reality often. I think in a socio-cultural/ socio-political prospective reality in art also confronting its what we might no want to face or we cannot understand and we are confronted with it in art. I think reality in art through a historical prespective is something that was one socio-cultural/ socio-political prospective that was captured and it has over time become historical reality.

The Psychological Context explored through levels of consciousness.
~ autobiographical representation – capturing ‘reality’, do the senses tell the truth, mindfulness
~ versions of self using a subjective frame – expression using insights from sensory stimulus
~ artist exposed through symbol (colour, object, expression)
~ externalising the internal

I think that in a Psychological Context i think i might connect to the versions of self using a subjective frame – expression using insights from sensory stimulus more as i think it just flows with my work. Its weird I cant explain it.

Focus Cont....

In my visual diary i spoke about Lucid dreaming and Hybrids and so far I am connecting with Lucid Dreaming more as I think it is something that is really easy to relate to. Although I haven't really read up on "Whats Real"

Whats Real- Our perception is unique – what is real to you may not be the same experience for another. Some people are colour blind, other species see the world differently. What determines our perception?

I like this! As everyone can draw their own conclusions on everything. It's their own imagination. No two people can really have the same ideas and same thoughts about anything. Its the way we are made and i think it is the way we are suppose to be.

My Focus

Upon reflection of all three focuses I have come to the conclusion that my focus will be Lucid Dreaming. As it is so interesting and fun all at the same time. Similar to "whats real" you can just play with your imagination however with with lucid dreaming it can happen in your sub conscious which i think is cooler because its like your true thoughts. Its your imagination on its own, with free reign.

LUCID DREAMING

I have chosen to use Lucid Dreaming as my focus for my work.
